Origins
We started in 2016 and continue to focus on patient-oriented work. Since our genesis, we have Developed Ten successful products and intend on increasing that Number. ENABLE CINCY IS A NON-PROFIT INCUBATOR FOR 3D PRINTED MEDICAL DEVICES ESTABLISHED BY UNIVERSITY OF CINCINNATI BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING STUDENTS. THIS VOLUNTEER ORGANIZATION WAS FOUNDED AT UC IN THE FALL OF 2015 TO BRIDGE THE GAP BETWEEN ENGINEERING AND MEDICINE VIA 3-D PRINTING. BY PROVIDING RESOURCES AND PROMOTING EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH, WE ENABLE STUDENTS TO DESIGN, BUILD, AND IMPLEMENT SOLUTIONS THAT DIRECTLY BENEFIT PATIENTS WITH DISABILITIES. IN CASES RANGING FROM PEDIATRIC PROSTHETICS TO ASSISTIVE DEVICES FOR TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURY, OUR GROUP PROVIDES FUNCTIONAL AND COST EFFECTIVE DEVICES THAT ENABLE PATIENTS TO OVERCOME DISABILITIES— ALL FOR FREE. |

NEXT LIVES HERE IS THE CORNERSTONE OF THE CULTURE INSTILLED WITHIN THE ENABLEUC CLINIC. WE STRIVE TO CREATE CUSTOMIZED PATHWAYS THROUGH A UNIVERSITY-WIDE FOCUS ON COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT WITH CINCINNATI PUBLIC SCHOOLS. THUS FAR, RESOURCES SUCH AS THE 1819 INNOVATION HUB HAVE ALLOWED US TO ACHIEVE OUR GOALS OF PROVIDING THOSE WITH LIMITED INDEPENDENCE AFFORDABLE PROSTHETICS.
In our organization, student led initiatives give our volunteers an experience they truly cannot find anywhere else.
We are differentiating the University of Cincinnati by providing the only experience in the country where students can use innovative design and 3D printing practices to develop novel devices that directly affect the quality of life for patients with disabilities.
When inspired students look to enroll in an engineering, design, or health sciences program, they will come to the University of Cincinnati, because Enable Cincy provides the experiential learning opportunity to make a profound impact in our community and around the world. Through recruitment of high achieving students and longitudinal mentoring programs, Enable Cincy will be sustainable at the student organization level for years to come.
